  • Due to its favourable geographical position Estonia has become a transit gateway between east and west as well as north and south. Its location is ideal for businesses/companies to create efficient transport links and distribution chains of goods and services to anywhere in Eastern Europe.
  • Estonia has some of the most liberal trade and investment laws in the world. The Wall Street Journal’s Index of Economic Freedom for 2005 rated Estonia 4th in the world in terms of ease of doing business.
  • About 80% of the freight transit through Estonia is by rail. The shortest transport route from Russia to Western Europe and North America goes through the Baltic States. The Estonian-Russian border is only 210 km from the Port of Tallinn by rail and it is 1100 km to Moscow.
  • There are 60 ports along the coast of Estonia, 31 of them handle commercial shipping and are open to vessels from other countries. The Port of Tallinn is one of the fastest developing ports in the Baltic Sea. In 2005 the most eastern port of the EU the Port of Sillamäe (SILPORT) was opened. It is a deep-sea port only 25 km from the EU-Russian border. As a multifunctional port, SILPORT has an infra superstructure capable to handle all cargo groups from oil-products and dry bulk to containerised cargo.
  • Estonia provides foreign companies an attractive entrance to large and fast-growing markets of the Baltic Sea region, including Russia. The modern Baltic Sea region consists of ten countries. The region is a unique mix of different countries around the Baltic Sea - the developed economies of Germany and Scandinavia and the expanding economies of the Baltic States, Poland and Russia.
  • Estonia is very well positioned to become one of the major business hubs in the region. Free trade agreements with a number of countries, membership of the EU, give goods produced in Estonia an access to a market of 500 million people. Membership in the World Trade Organisation gives an additional boost to the expanding foreign trade.
  • Transparency International ranks Estonia as the least corrupted country in Central and Eastern Europe.
